Gothenburg School of Business, Economics and Law

Gothenburg School of Business, Economics and Law (Handelshögskolan i Göteborg) was founded in 1923 on the initiative of the business sector, and contacts with this sector have always been a natural part of both the education and also the research.

Each year more than 7000 students register at the School's programmes and courses. Demand for the School's programmes and courses is considerable. The business and economics programme is the second most sought-after study programme in its field in Sweden were great emphasis is laid on the students´ own experience and, through interplay between action and reflection, gives them the insights and skills that leadership tasks require.

In 2004 the School received the EQUIS accreditation. This represents international recognition for the school as a whole - not only for its education and research but also for other processes, such as activities with the business sector, alumni activities and further education as well.

The Business School is active within many business fields among which finance and accounting are the two most prominent ones. Today the School has Sweden's leading training educational and research environment in the field of Accounting. All teaching and most research on Accounting topics take place within two skills groups: the Financial Reporting and Analysis Group and, secondly, the Management Accounting Group at the Department of Business Administration. With the opening of Centre for Finance with its finance laboratory as a key element the School has strengthen its position in the field of finance. The laboratory gives students and researchers access to several international banks' databases and models in real time which enables students to apply financial models under more realistic circumstances. By spending time in an authentic environment, the students obtain a better feel for the real workings of the financial world. Only a few universities world wide, such as MIT and Cornell, can offer this modern form of teaching.
